SFFC Physician Job Description 2026

Summary

The San Francisco Free Clinic (SFFC) is seeking an experienced, board-certified clinician in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine to join our team in a clinician-educator role beginning February 2026 or as soon as possible.

Opportunity

The incoming physician will join an established team of clinician-educators to provide primary, preventive, urgent, and chronic care for uninsured adults in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are looking for a part-time commitment of up to 70% clinical FTE with the possibility of 10-20% administrative FTE depending on additional responsibilities. The role also offers the opportunity to supervise and mentor senior medical students from Yale, UCSF, Stanford, and USC, as well as residents from partner programs including the San Mateo Psychiatry Residency and CPMC.

SFFC seeks a physician who is deeply committed to caring for underserved populations and equally passionate about medical education. This role is ideal for someone who values working in a small, dedicated community of clinicians while contributing to teaching, clinical care, and clinic leadership. Opportunities for growth into leadership roles—whether in administration, quality improvement, informatics, or academic partnerships—are available depending on interest and skill set.

This position offers a competitive salary and full benefits, including health, dental, and retirement.

Organization

The San Francisco Free Clinic is an award-winning nonprofit that provides primary care to uninsured adults while training the next generation of clinicians. Our dual mission—direct patient care and medical education—guides everything we do. Last year, more than 40 senior medical students from UCSF, Yale, Stanford, and USC completed four-week sub-internship rotations with us, alongside residents from San Mateo and CPMC.

Our attending physicians are experienced educators with academic appointments at UCSF, Yale, Stanford, and USC. Teaching and learning are central to our work. Daily precepting discussions incorporate current literature, and we hold weekly morning report and monthly clinical conferences, often featuring volunteer specialists.

On-site services include social work, nutrition, part-time psychiatry, and yoga for patients and staff. Through generous community partnerships, our patients also receive donated specialty consultations, imaging, medications, and supplies. An on-site dispensary ensures access to needed prescriptions.
